How a man's odd renovation turned into offers Australia-wide

One determined renovator’s ‘crack den’ project has turned into a wave of online offers to do renovations around the country.

Nat Redgrave has been hard at work renovating a run-down home in Charters Towers, , since late June with the former ‘crack den’ now halfway to upholding its new name: Cottage on Craven.

He explained the renovation has been hard work but is already looking to future projects and is even receiving requests from rural fans to do up their town.

The new fence will display a sign officially naming it Cottage on Craven, which is in the process of being made by a local blacksmith.

The property’s neighbours, Ellen and Greg, said they are grateful for the renovation.

The abandoned home’s kitchen was crawling with insects and filled with old food when Mr Redgrave first arrived

Now Mr Redgrave has cleared away all the rubbish in the kitchen and cleaned its cupboards

‘They’ve been there for six years and they’re super happy we’re cleaning it up,’ Mr Redgrave said.

‘They were getting ready to ring council and say “something’s gotta be done because the place is an absolute mess”.

‘So they were very happy with us getting in there and cleaning it up.’

One thing Mr Redgrave wasn’t expecting with his newfound popularity online was people criticising him for being honest about his investment and expected return.

One of the bedrooms (pictured before Mr Redgrave began renovating) was covered in old furniture, filth and rubbish with its floor falling apart

The formerly-messy bedroom has now been stripped of rubbish with Mr Redgrave working to replace its windows and flooring

‘You know, Mantap168 this is my job so I do need to make a profit but I also want to give this property a new start,’ Mr Redgrave said.

Even with delays caused by Covid, Mr Redgrave is determined the home will be ready for sale in just seven weeks.

He hopes the new home will better suit families in the ‘beautiful’ Charters Towers area and give the property the chance to ‘turn over a new leaf’.
