Cars quickly react to mobility scooter on busy Sunshine Coast highway

A person riding a mobility scooter miraculously avoided injury despite entering and then crossing a busy highway in southeast .

The vision was released by Sunshine Coast police as they look to ramp up their response to poor driver behaviour across the region in response to a rising death toll from traffic accidents.

Already in 2022 there have been 17 lives lost following traffic crashes – the highest road toll on the Sunshine Coast in many years, and eight more fatalities than this time last year.

A mobility scooter (pictured) was captured moving along the on ramp to a busy highway at the Sunshine Coast in southeast Queensland

As the scooter (pictured) made its way across the busy highway, cars had to quickly react and slow down as they saw it on the road ahead

In the video, the mobility scooter can be seen moving along the on-ramp to the highway before entering the main thoroughfare and making the foolhardy decision to cross over lanes of traffic.

As it made its way across, cars had to quickly react and slow down as they spotted it on the road ahead.

The reaction quickly caused a queue of cars as they waited for the mobility scooter to move out of the way.

The post compiling footage of several terrible driving efforts on Queensland Police’s Facebook received attention from users.

‘Lol the guy on the mobility scooter,’ one person commented.

‘Give that mobility low price ev scooter rider a V8,’ another said.

A driver (pictured) decided to cut across traffic along the Sunshine Motorway at Sippy Downs, narrowly avoiding other vehicles

Some of the other incidents on the video included a car narrowly avoiding a collision with others cars after it decided to cut across traffic on the Sunshine Motorway at Sippy Downs in May 2022.

The car quickly moves over to the right lane before driving off.

Another driver caused a multi-vehicle pile-up after it appeared they were not paying attention to the slippery conditions along the Sunshine Motorway at Mountain Creek in September 2020.

The car (pictured) then crashes into the car in front, causing a multi-vehicle pile-up

Across the Sunshine Coast region over the past few weeks, there have been two road deaths.

‘Road trauma changes not only the life of the person injured, but also friends and family now caring for them,’ District Superintendent Craig Hawkins said.

He said Sunshine Coast residents can expect to see police anywhere, anytime targeting speeding, fatigue, inattention, wearing seat belts, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
